Development of A Sustainable Seaweed Farm With Tissue Cultured Seedlings
Nov 2022 – Now . Kepulauan Tanimbar – Maluku
This initiative is to assist the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in accelerating the provision of superior seaweed seedlings through tissue culture, both in terms of quantity and quality, by developing seedbeds in the designated areas supervised by the P2MKP Winner PIU. Consequently, it is anticipated that coastal communities will have easier access to high-quality seaweed seedlings, thus enhancing the quality and productivity of seaweed cultivation owned by coastal communities.
The collaborative efforts between the KKP, Balai Ambon, Winner PIU, and the supervised farmers from Sambung Asa have been instrumental in achieving significant progress. From carrying 5 kg of tissue-cultured seedlings from the Ambon Fisheries Cultivation Center in November 2022, the seedlings have flourished into a 50-ton seedbed after 250 days and continue to thrive. Together, our goal is to create a sustainable seaweed farm while simultaneously fostering resilient and prosperous coastal communities.
